In 1949, the first commercial use of the 3-A Symbol occurred when a company called Cherry-Burrell Corporation received the first authorization to use the symbol on their equipment. This marked the beginning of the official use of the 3-ASymbol as a recognizable indicator of equipment meeting high sanitary standards in the food processing industry and supporting the regulatory inspection programs for dairy equipment at the state and federal levels.
