McLEAN, Virginia - 3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc. has released the long-awaited revision of 3-A Sanitary Standard for Ball-Type Valves, Number 68-01. This 3-A Sanitary Standard applies to the sanitary aspects of Clean-Out-of Place (COP) ball-type valves used on processing equipment and on equipment and lines which hold or convey fluid products.
This is the first revision of the individual equipment standard which also uses the 3-A Sanitary Standard for General Requirements as a normative reference. The standard was first published in 1996 and included definitions for product contact surfaces and body cavity fillers as well as ball-type valve itself. These definitions and much more have been revised and clarified. Several important additions worth highlighting are the requirement to mark the valve body “COP Only,” allowance of certain non-metal components, requirements for powered actuators, and new illustrations “intended to demonstrate general principles only, and are not intended to limit individual ingenuity.”
Companies that are 3-A Symbol Holders and show conformance to 68-00 should contact their Certified Conformance Evaluators to request a Third Party Verification Inspection and amendment report to show conformance to the new edition per the requirements of the TPV Manual and 3-A Symbol License Agreement available on our website www.3-a.org.
A copy of 68-01 and other 3-A SSI documents are available at https://www.3-a.org/standards or atwww.3-a.org.
