3-A SSI maintains a Pharmaceutical Equipment Standards Steering Committee (P3-A) of 3-A Sanitary Standards, Inc. (3-A SSI). The committee oversees the development of new standards for equipment used in the production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). The new P3-A standards are based on existing 3-A Standards and reference other appropriate standards.
To develop the new standards, the P3-A uses a canvass process that conforms to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Essential Requirements: Due Process Requirements for American National Standards.
